Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but we are happy to tell you that the problem has already been fixed. It should be solved in the next software version. You may want to check for a software upgrade.

Ah, wow, I see how many duplicates this bug has. :-) As far as I could see there's no release with this bugfix yet. However, I managed to work around this by copying some music to the iPod using gnupod-tools first.

BTW, it looks like Rhythmbox doesn't support this oh-so-useful "signed iTunesDB" or whatever it is that Apple uses to lock out third party tools? Things work for me if I run gnupod's mktunes every time before ejecting the iPod. Is support for this missing in Rhythmbox or is it maybe not enabled by default?
