GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 536831
v4l2src == non-experimental
Last modified: 2008-06-20 15:24:30 UTC
v4l2src is still marked as experimental which I think is just cause nobody ever has gotten around to remove that check. If nobody has any complaints I will remove the experimental status for the plugin so it gets built as normal for next good release.
This is not just because everyone's forgotten about it. It came up before the last -good release and the consensus was that it's not entirely ready yet AFAIK.
Anything concrete? When Wim fixed it up back in the day the idea was to make it 'experimental' for the next release cycle since it had been pushed in just before release and thus give it a chance for more testing. I noticed that it has been packaged by Red Hat for a long time (as they package all the good 'experimental' plugins). It also works fine for me with Empathy, giving me a video image.
Well, IMHO we should remove the experimental bit about v4l2src now. It seems that most people need to use it anyway and to my knowledge all distributions are already packaging it.
Ok, due to the major distro's already shipping this, my basic tests have it working with empathy for instance, and it having docs I have fixed configure.ac to no longer only build this with the experimental flag.
