Make a extension for Deskbar so that you can do a package search and search the repositories for packages.

There are many different package formats out there. It's to cumbersome to add search capabilities for all of them. Maybe PackageKit could make things easier (if it would have been used by other distributions than Fedora). Nevertheless, the idea is as such is great, but the work to implement this feature would be much too big.

Then throw together a quick script for the most popular package format stuff like Ubuntu.
