Description Fabian Sturm 2008-05-11 09:40:39 UTC
Hi

When banshee is started the first time it does not scan the "Music Library" for already existing entries. So you end up with an empty playlist.

I think this is a major usability issue since when you go to preferences you see that the folder with your music is selected and still no music is shown.

Same problem is that newly added folders you copied by hand into your music library are not found. It would be annoying if you always had to import the same folder again and again after a copy with e.g. nautilus.

Thanks, Fabian

This bug is partly a duplicate of bug #421376.
The inital scan of the Music Library part however is not.

I would suggest that when the Library location is changed, a scan should be done.

Further: It would be really usefull to have an option to force a rescan of the library.

This bug is related with #385965. Can be considered a duplicated?

We won't do initial library scans.

Re-scanning the library when its location is changed is a valid request, I updated the bug summary.

This has been implemented as a Library Watcher extension.

Hmm, not doing an initial library scan is for me an unexpected behavior.
What about showing an initial dialog?

Your current music library is set to:

     ~/Musiy

Scan initial library directory for music?
                             Scan, Cancel
Comment 5 Felipe 2011-12-11 19:33:14 UTC
Is this still a valid bug?
I've seen that with the latest Banshee my music folder gets scanned every time I start Banshee, adding or removing files in the watched folder.

Banshee is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than three years ago. Its codebase has been archived.

Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect
reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project
to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the
responsibility for active development again.
