GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 531967
Exif data from PNG files is not recognized
Last modified: 2018-07-12 00:09:20 UTC
F-Spot version 0.4.2 (Ubuntu Hardy), does not recognize the EXIF data embedded in PNG files by UFRaw. If I'm not mistaken there is no "standard/official" way to embed EXIF in PNG. It seems there is a de-facto standard used by UFRaw/Digikam. I don't want to work with lossy files, but for now I'm forced to, because EXIF is more important to me. Please support EXIF for PNG files.
Created attachment 110525 [details] Sample PNG image with EXIF data I'm posting a sample image generated by UFraw. I'm retest this image soon with 0.4.3.1
I rechecked this with 0.4.3.1, and F-Spot still does not recognize the embedded EXIF data. This is currently the fastest route to lossless+metadata support. UFRaw does not embed EXIF in TIFF (and UFRaw's TIFF compression is a lot worse than PNGs).
This is fixed with Taglib#, I think.
Nope, it's not, but it could be done.
Though it should be noted that XMP is a much better format than EXIF.
F-Spot has moved to https://github.com/f-spot/f-spot/issues If this Bugzilla ticket is still valid in a recent version of F-Spot, please feel free to post this topic as a ticket in the F-Spot project on GitHub. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping as we are planning to shut down GNOME Bugzilla in favor of GNOME Gitlab.
