This is unusual, and, combined with the lack of confirmation and the fact that Ctrl+T is also used to open new tabs, has lead to the accidental deletion of some bookmarks.

On the contrary: it's the same shortcut Nautilus uses for moving files to the trash can. The shortcut was added as a result of bug 351100 so I'm marking this a duplicate.
