Description Joanmarie Diggs (IRC: joanie) 2008-04-08 19:12:36 UTC
Steps to reproduce:

1. Open the (to be) attached sample presentation

2. Tab to move to the first place holder on the first slide

Orca says and displays "ImpressTitle 1". This is good because it lets the user know what type of placeholder has focus. HOWEVER, the user doesn't know what's in that placeholder. In order to find out what's there, the user currently has to get into editing mode. (Is this desirable, or do we want to speak the contents of that placeholder after the placeholder type?) But first:

3. Pretend that you're not a very good Impress user. :-) You're on
a placeholder, it's for a title, it's bound to have text, right?
Arrow around to see what's there.

Orca says and displays nothing as a result, but what's taking place on the screen is that every press of an arrow is dragging that title placeholder around and impacting the appearance of the slide. It would be nice if we could do something to alert the user to the fact that this was taking place.

4. Remember that you need to get into editing mode -- either to see
what's there or to edit the contents. Press Enter.

9 times out of 10, Orca says absolutely nothing in response. It would be nice if we said *something* to indicate that we've changed modes -- especially given the fact that if you're not sure what mode you're in you're in danger of rearranging your slide by mistake. About 1 time out of 10, we say "Paragraph 0 My title." Given that we currently aren't speaking the contents of a placeholder when that placeholder gains focus, this ain't too bad. But I think we should lose the "Paragraph 0". Depending on what we want to do w.r.t. what is spoken at step 2, however, speaking "My title" might become redundant.

Adding Mike's name to the summary so that he can provide the desired user experience.

Mike, we need your input on this to move forward. Thanks!

This is a duplicate of two other recent Orca bugs. Closing
(against one of them).
