    solaris 8 + (sun-)recommended patches, 
    this week's gnome for solaris
    stock installation, meaning sawfish 0.36

to repeat:
1. kicker -> programs -> settings -> gnome control center
    (or just click the kicker's toolchest icon)

2. click desktop / theme selector

3.  click on any theme

4.  dialog box entitled "Error" comes up:
    Application "theme-selector-capplet" (process 1721) has crashed
    due to a fatal error.
    (Segmentation Fault)
