GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 518598
Get rid of .xchat2 and follow fd.o specifications
Last modified: 2019-02-23 02:51:11 UTC
Xchat-gnome shouldn't create a .xchat2 folder. According to fd.o specification, it should put user preferences in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME. Any user data should go to $XDG_DATA_HOME. I only see the list of used channels belonging to this folder. Any cache stuffs should go to $XDG_CACHE_HOME More infos : http://standards.freedesktop.org/basedir-spec/latest/ar01s03.html The reason why I'm reporting this bug : http://ploum.frimouvy.org/?184-cleaning-user-preferences-keeping-user-data

Is this bug still present in the latest version of Xchat?
I confirm this bug is still present.
* ping
A "ping" without addressing anybody and expressing what is wanted often isn't very successful.
What is it planned about FreeDesktop.org XDG Specification for xchat-gnome?
Created attachment 232604 [details] [review] Patch to use XDG_CONFIG_DIR
Review of attachment 232604 [details] [review]: I think this patch needs also some migration code to move existing configuration data to the new location. Otherwise the new version cannot find the existing profiles.
xchat-gnome is not under active development anymore. Its codebase has been archived: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/xchat-gnome/commits/master Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather reactivate the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is deprecated) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again. You may want to switch to Hexchat (or another IRC client that suits you).
