GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 509073
Recent files wrong direction when in RTL with latin file names
Last modified: 2016-11-26 15:36:51 UTC
In the recent list menu in gedit, when the filename is in latin this causes the text to be flipped to RTL. Not good for RTL languages. Test with: LC_ALL=ar_DZ.UTF8 I will attach a fix that adds an RLM character when in RTL mode. And a screenshot of the difference.

previous title is non-sense.
I'd like to get decision on this problem, evince patch is applied but this probably should go into other languages.
Other languages? The RTL test catches all languages that are RTL: Arabic, Hebrew, Farsi, etc... So the fix is for all of them. I probably didn't understand your comment.
other programs, sorry. Totem uses recent files for example.
I believe the totem bug is still that of totem. bug #509080 . Bastien made it GTK+, but I'm waiting for his input after my comment. Totem has the recent files list, it prepends a digit as a shortcut (_%d) and then creates the menu item with that file name, that is done in totem, hence it'll need to be flipped there I believe.
Thanks for taking the time to report this. However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore by GNOME developers. GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes by GNOME developers for the version that you use. GTK3 has completely changed the way of displaying menu items and doesn't print number anymore before the list of last edited files. By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a newer version of GNOME. Please feel free to reopen this bug report if the problem still occurs with a recent version of GNOME, or feel free to report this bug in the bug tracking system of your Linux distribution if your distribution still supports the version that you are using.
