Description C.J. Collier 2008-01-04 20:49:13 UTC
Can terms be linked to a glossary somewhere?

+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #507209 +++

1. I selected the “create a new set of accounts” button and hit “ok”

2, A page came up that said <no file> at the top.

3. I switched screens and found that a page that said “New Account Heirarchy Setup”

4. I hit “forward”

5. I continued to “Setup new accounts”

I did not understand the term “placeholder”

That's a good idea.
Comment 2 Andrew Sackville-West 2008-01-09 00:20:43 UTC
maybe a tool tip on that string? can we do that?
Comment 3 Derek Atkins 2008-01-09 01:07:35 UTC
Nah, we just need to adjust the text at the top of the druid page.

Suggestions?

I just tried this in 2.3.8-and-then-some (r18524)

For starters, "<no file>" has recently been replaced with "Unsaved Book - GnuCash"

* New file
* This pops up the "New Account Hierarchy Setup"

I went through the whole thing, but I didn't find the term "placeholder" anywhere. Has this been fixed then, or am I looking in the wrong place ?

It's in the page with the account hierarchies... When you choose accounts you can select accounts to be placeholders (or, more accurately, see which accounts are placeholder accounts).

How about this text:

"On this page you can make some changes to the selected accounts.

If you would like to change an account's name, click on the row containing the account, then click on the account name and change it.

Some accounts are marked as "Placeholder". Placeholder accounts are used to create a hierarchy of accounts and normally do not have transactions or opening balances. If you would like an account to be a placeholder account, click the checkbox for that account.

If you would like an account to have an opening balance, click on the row containing the account, then click on the account name and enter the starting balance.

Note: all accounts except Equity and placeholder accounts may have an opening balance."

I have taken the explanation of a Placeholder account from the Gnucash tutorial.

Great! Any chance my mom could get credited for taking the time to do this usability write-up? I could probably convince her to do another pass if you folks think there's a need.

Uhm, what do you mean with "Any chance my mom could get credited" ?

Let it be clear we appreciate her effort very much and thank her for reporting such usability issues. But I'm not sure what other form of credits we are supposed to give ?
