GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 506948
Copying Links does not decode ampersands correctly
Last modified: 2008-07-17 12:03:42 UTC
Version: 2.12 Problem w/ Copied Links in HTML Mail 1. Type a link containing an Ampersand (&) into an HTML email and Evo will automatically turn it into a blue, underlined link. 2. This will work to test on -- http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=novell+sucks&btnG=Search 3. Email that to yourself. 4. After you receive the message, look at it in the message preview pane and right click the link, choosing "copy link location" 5. Paste the link into the URL field of a browser, and voila! The link is now http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=novell+sucks&btnG=Search That's some crazy insane NOVELL-OSITY! Makes you wonder if people over there actually use this software or if it's just a big ad for Outlook. Distribution: Fedora release 8 (Werewolf) Gnome Release: 2.20.2 2007-11-27 (Red Hat, Inc) BugBuddy Version: 2.20.1
yes, the ampersand encoding is a valid bug report. as a workaround, you can (surprise, surprise!) *click* on the link to open it in a browser instead of copying it. so the developers and some users are obviously using the software and the left button of their computer mouse. now i only wonder: what does a community project (evolution) have to do with one of the distributors shipping gnome (novell)?
I'm having this problem too. Version 2.12.1 in Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon). I first noticed it with links to eBay listings in e-mails from eBay. This wasn't a problem with the version of Evolution in Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn). The work-around described in the previous comment (click on the link) doesn't work for me -- clicking on the link in the e-mail opens it Firefox with "&" in the URL instead of "&".
srini, can this regression please get fixed for 2.22?

Andre, I'll target this for 2.22.
Fixed in trunk. Check in 2.21.91

This one is back again, in 2.12.3, in Fedora 8. Not sure about other platforms though.
Johnny, can you check in 2.22. I fixed in 2.22.
It has definitely something to do with bug #485700 too. Anyway it works fine in evo 2.22 (actually the trunk, but it doesn't matter here) with your fix mentioned in comment #7. Marking as fixed then.
