Description Ariel 2008-01-01 15:37:09 UTC
File-roller supports basic "password" handling for 7z via manually entering it in the edit menu.

7z in its native format supports not only content encryption, but header (filename) encryption too. This is a request for file-roller to support this feature too.

Two simple usecases:
1) opening a .7z file with header encryption: file-roller should prompt for the password, and keep it temporarily in memory -perhaps obfuscated- (to be used for extractions) while the app instance is running.

2) creating an archive, manually from file-roller: In the Edit > Password dialog, a checkbox for Filename encryption

3) creating an archive, from nautilus: same as 2), perhaps we can leave this for later.

4) encrypting headers of an existing .7z, from file-roller: would be really nice.

This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.

ps: added support for header encryption in rar archives too.
