GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 503117
Files saved from Dia cannot be read back in
Last modified: 2008-05-03 18:06:43 UTC
Please describe the problem: Any files I save from Dia (Using File->Save, in the .dia format) cannot be read back in to Dia using File->Open. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a new, empty drawing 2. Use the polygon tool to draw a random polygon so the figure has something in it 3. Save the drawing using File->Save (ensure that "Compress Diagram Files" is checked) 4. Close the drawing 5. Use File->Open to open the drawing saved in step 3 Actual results: I get a lot of red text, starting with "To hide the error messages delete or disable the 'Errors' layer". Each line is of the form "o.name("is_portrait")->Unknown instance has no attribute 'name' Expected results: File should load properly Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: This is the stock Fedora 8 build.
You apparently have selected "SVG plain (*.svg)" in the "Determine file type" combo box. Thus you are forcing the dia file you saved to be interpreted as SVG. If you have saved your Dia file with the extension .dia you should select: Determine file type : by extension.
That's true. Duh. Sorry for the confusion. Question: Why does the UI still show .dia files if I had selected .svg by mistake? That aspect of the UI seems a bit counter-intuitive.

Answer: because no one fixed the UI until recently (-: 2008-05-03 Hans Breuer <hans@breuer.org> * app/filedlg.c : adapt the "Supported Formats" filter so that the files shown are matching the extensions of the slected import filter. Fixes bug #503117
