GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 495395
applets do not load! (after geometry of desk top changes??)
Last modified: 2009-07-24 17:40:04 UTC
Please describe the problem: On the console, the applets (i.e. clock) load on the bottom panel. However, on a vnc session, the bottom console will not allow the loading of any applets. I believe the fix is to reload the gnome-applets package. However, I think this will get the vnc session working but will probably break the console. But I haven't verified this yet. Before an upgrade, applets were loading with out any problems into the panel for both the console and vnc sessions. Steps to reproduce: 1. Start a vncserver session. 2. Use vncviewer to view the session. 3. Try adding applets to the bottom gnome panel. Did you get "The panel encountered a problem while loading... applet"? Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
what "upgrade"?
(In reply to comment #1) > what "upgrade"? > Sorry, the exact update is unknown. If I had to guess, I started to have problems on a RedHat F6 desk top after a "yum update". The desk top is now running RedHat F7. To help, I did notice the following line is entered into /var/log/Xorg.0.log: AUDIT: Mon Nov 19 11:16:02 2007: 3412 Xorg: client 4 rejected from local host (uid xxx) ...I removed the actual uid number - just paranoid I guess. This happens for every applet that can not be added to the panel. The above was a manual add after the window session had already started. Questions: 1) Is this a permission problem? 2) If I owned the console while evoking a vncserver, would the applets load on the vnc window session? ...I'll have to try these things later.
Is this still an issue in 2.24/2.26?
