GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 488670
Twain remains in Memory when Scanning
Last modified: 2008-01-15 13:31:12 UTC
I was scanning about 150 Documents and suddenly, GIMP Crashed without any Error-Message. I restarted the Program and was able to Scan 2 additional Documents, them the BMP-Plugin gave a massage, that there was an unspecified errror and the Work is not saved. I quit GIMP, restarted it, same Problem. Then I looked in the Task-Manager: Very _VERY_ lots of "twain.exe" where there! (ablot 150) After I killed them, GIMP worked without a problem. But again, the twain.exe was as often as I scanned in the task-manager. Closing GIMP has no effect! Greetings, Martin
It is the job of the operating system to kill child processes when the parent process dies. Still, the plug-in should probably exit after scanning so there might be some fix needed in the Twain plug-in. Unfortunately the plug-in is unmaintained for quite a while already.
