GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 488611
Incomprehensible translations in gnome-power-manager
Last modified: 2008-09-13 14:00:41 UTC
Currently the tray icon displays this as a pop-up: L'ordinateur est branché sur le secteur Batteries de l'ordinateur, 25 minutes avant l'état chargé (70 %) La temps de charge de la batterie est estimé Not only it is full of mistakes, but it doesn't mean anything. Instead, it should read something like: L'ordinateur est branché sur le secteur. Batterie en chargement (70 %), temps de charge restant : 25 minutes environ. There seem to be other such issues in g-p-m, maybe a complete review is needed.
I added some missing points to the last translation and replaced: La temps de charge de la batterie est estimé by Le temps de décharge de la batterie est une estimation. Do you have many batteries on you computer? This word is singular in my laptop. You say 'full of mistakes' can you detail? You don't seem to know how g-p-m translation is done, it's really difficult to translate because sentences are composed (I already reported/fixed some problems about that) but may be you are able to enhance the actual translation: http://gnomefr.traduc.org/suivi/module.php?id=1065 Actually, your proposition is not applicable. The reported typos are now fixed in gnome-2-20 and trunk.
If it isn't possible to clarify things only with fixing the translations, this must be because the English strings are wrong and/or wrongly designed. They should allow to display information in a clean and understandable way regardless of the language.
Have you a concrete proposition to reach this goal (like patch for gpm-cell-unit.c)?
Not yet, but I'll look into it. In all cases, I'm not pretending this is an easy task.
Josselin, Can I close the bug or do you want to link this bug to g-p-m and not L10N?
I think it should be reassigned to g-p-m, but maybe I should first check whether this has improved in 2.21.
I suggest to close this bug, unless you can show us there is something we can improve at the translation level.
