GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 486780
Nautilus does not warn when deleting read-only files
Last modified: 2009-06-16 07:18:53 UTC
Please describe the problem: Orginally reported at the Ubuntu bug tracker: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/152879 Nautilus deletes files without warning even when they have been marked read-only (444) or don't read (000). You have to be the owner of the file to do this. The behavior when using 'rm' on the console is a warning that the file is write protected. This should be implemented in Nautilus since at the moment no effective protection against accidental removal of files is possible. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a new file 2. Change its permissions to read-only for you, group and others 3. Trash and delete it with Nautilus Actual results: There comes no warning or error message at all. Expected results: A warning "Are you sure you want to delete this read-only file?". Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:
This could be reproduced using Nautilus 2.22.0 (Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha-4), too.
