Description Johannes Berg 2007-10-14 19:45:47 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When I use gstreamer alsa output (selected in gnome preferences) with rhythmbox, output crackles a lot in louder parts of music. When I use mplayer with alsa output, no such problem occurs, nor when I use rhythmbox with pulseaudio and alsa output.

Steps to reproduce:
1. play music in rhythmbox while having alsa output selected

Actual results:
music crackles during louder parts

Expected results:
no crackling, music plays fine

Does this happen every time?
yes

Other information:
powerbook with snd-aoa linux driver (of which I'm the author) with a tas codec

Is this a duplicate of bug #436192 by any chance? (which is probably an alsa bug, not a GStreamer bug, since I get it with 'default' as alsa output device, but not with 'front' or 'hw:0' as alsa output device, while sending exactly the same data to alsa; this is with a macbook pro rev3 on ubuntu gutsy with libasound 1.0.14 in my case)
Comment 2 Johannes Berg 2007-10-14 20:11:47 UTC
Indeed.

gst-launch-0.10 filesrc location=/tmp/sample.ogg ! oggdemux ! vorbisdec ! audioconvert ! alsasink device=hw:0 -> no crackling

gst-launch-0.10 filesrc location=/tmp/sample.ogg ! oggdemux ! vorbisdec ! audioconvert ! alsasink -> crackling
