GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 475980
QIF Import: Forward and Back don't follow same path
Last modified: 2018-06-29 21:49:03 UTC
Please describe the problem: When importing a QIF file, the sequence of screen shown by following the Forward button is different to that followed by pressing the Back button. Also, some of the windows shown say "Press Forward to proceed to the XXX screen". However, the XXX screen is not shown next. Steps to reproduce: 1. Start a QIF import and select a QIF file 2. Press Forward to take you to the "QIF files you have loaded" screen 3. Press Back - this takes you to the "Select Default QIF account name" screen rather than back to the file selection screen Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: Also note that as you go forward in the import druid, the sequence of screens is not the same as what is described at the bottom of the screens e.g. the "Match QIF categories..." screen says "Click Forward to enter... currency". When you do click Forward, the screen is not the currency screen (see also Bug 475965).
The forward/back sequence has been fixed (see bug 503166 and bug 514027). However, invalid labels of "Press forward to proceed to the XXX screen" still exist. Confirming and moving to the QIF import component.
It seems to me that, generally speaking, labels indicating which screen comes next are unnecessary and distracting. I'm inclined to eliminate them, and in some cases actually replace them with useful instructions about the currently displayed page.
Fix committed as r17162. Requesting backport for 2.2. The account, category, and memo matching pages have been redesigned to better comply with the HIG: 1. The labels that told (sometimes incorrectly) which page comes next are gone. 2. The lists now offer a mnemonic for keyboard navigation. 3. A count of selected matches is now indicated by a label. 4. A "Change" button has been added as a more obvious alternative to double-clicking. On the currency page 1. The label that told (sometimes incorrectly) which page comes next is gone. 2. The remaining labels have been simplified. 3. A mnemonic is now offered for keyboard navigation.
Applied to branches/2.2 as r17358 for inclusion in GnuCash 2.2.6. Thanks!
