2. Focus is on the file list window of the dialog, so typing anything activates the "find-as-you-type" feature

I would also suggest to replicate Nautilus' "rename file" behavior: If the application that opens the dialog suggests a file name with an extension, select only the file name and put the cursor between it and the dot.

I found this was still happening in libgtk2.0 2.12.0-1ubuntu3 so I submitted a bug and they sent me here.

This should be fixed with the patch that went in for bug #419737.  Please reopen this bug if the problem persists.

For me this is not fixed in 2.12.7-1.
I'm using ubuntu hardy version.
If I do a save document, I have the save behavior than in the comment #6

Huh... I just committed the fix to SVN yesterday.  Are you sure you have that patch in your package?
