Please describe the problem:
Browse to a directory with many (100s) of files. 
The dialog freezes and eats memory while populating itself.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Browse to a directory with many files.


Actual results:
The dialog freezes and eats memory while populating itself.

Expected results:
The dialog displays the first N files, and fetches more as needed.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

That's a GTK+ bug. Probably bug 310642 or something like this.
