Description gorkem 2001-09-10 00:59:17 UTC
Hi

I currently do the i18n work for Nautilus. The problem with some strings is the
following:

If there's a string like "Jack's Home" or "Root's Home", it's not possible
to translate it to Turkish in one way. If you want to translate, than the first
word will have a suffix and the problem is that this suffix may change according
to the word. Like that:

English Turkish
---------- --------
jack's Home jack'in Evi
root's Home root'un Evi
ali's Home ali'nin Evi

When Nautilus takes over the whole desktop, the first icon shows up as "root's
home", and most probably this will change according to the user name who runs
Nautilus.

The only solution (I can think of) is mentioning only "Home", not the username..
(Is there a way to bypass %s, i.e the user name?)

------- Additional Comments From sullivan@eazel.com 2001-02-12 09:27:52 ----

Duplicate of bug 45360. Please read the comments in that bug to see how to avoid
including the substituted name in the string. Another solution that would work
in English (but is a little awkward in English) is to say "Home of user-name" or
"Home for user-name".
