Description Sebastien Bacher 2007-06-28 14:12:14 UTC
The bug has been opened on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/118455

"Binary package hint: gnome-media

This is an usability/wishlist request:
for the volume applet, quick muting and unmuting should be possible using the middle mouse button click.

The middle mouse click is currently not associated with any action in the applet.
I believe this would be an usability improvement to associate it with the mute/unmute action."

I was about to file a similar feature request. Rhythmbox does exactly that and it's very convenient.

Middle click would be faster, handier than right click → mute.

Confirming because of the duplicate.

What about adding the mute check box to the volume slider also ?
Comment 5 Pacho Ramos 2008-06-02 18:27:10 UTC
I think that it would be "equivalent" to right click+ mute, but I have not objections for adding it also if others find it useful
Comment 6 Martin Mai 2008-12-13 15:55:23 UTC
Maybe the problem with middle click is that you can move applets that way. With rhythmbox it works because it is in the system tray and cannot be moved our of it. So my additional suggestion would be to add the volume control to the system tray instead of having an own applet for it
Comment 7 David Prieto 2008-12-13 19:29:09 UTC
I seem to remember you could use middle-click to paste content to tomboy. Maybe gnome can tell clicks from drags, and act accordingly?
Comment 8 Casual J. Programmer 2009-10-14 10:57:29 UTC
The middle click suggestion is not really intuitive, nobody expexts it. Also there might be still a lot of two button mouses around. Especially the touchpad used in Notebooks is usually limited to two buttons.

As for moving or at least copying the check box to the slider is a courtesy towards Windows users, who are used to finding it there.

Also, if you drag the slider all the way down, mute gets locked and there is no way out except for leaving the left click menu and switch to the right click menu to unmute. Not a really comfortable nor elegant solution.
Comment 9 Casual J. Programmer 2009-10-14 11:02:04 UTC
Hmm, I just found out, that clicking twice in the sliders path anyplace above the slider unlocks it and sets volume to that value.

This looks fine for me, but is by no means intuitive. There should be a bubble associated with opening the slider informing people of this functionality.

I just think it would be a nice convenient feature that would go the extra step in supporting the users of these newfangled middle-buttons :)

(Xserver is acting too, heard they added a middle click "emulation mode" there)
