Description Lionel Dricot 2007-04-24 02:43:47 UTC
Somes MP3 have a wrong duration displayed when played with GStreamer (both Totem and Rhythmbox).

This is very annoying as it is impossible to seek correctly through those songs (the player thinks that the song is very long) and it's impossible to burn those files with a GStreamer based burner.

Examples :

http://ploum.fritalk.com/musique/Hollies%20-%20Long%20Cool%20Woman%20In%20A%20Black%20Dress.mp3
This song is 3 minutes long and is displayed as being 13 minutes

http://ploum.fritalk.com/musique/Dream%20Theater/07%20-%20Sacrificed%20Sons.mp3
This song is displayed as a 1h30 song (!)

I still have others, ask them if you want more samples.

I use Ubuntu Feisty.

Probably a duplicate of bug #432533
Comment 2 Jan Schmidt 2007-06-08 09:16:02 UTC
No, neither of these files have Xing headers - it's a manifestation of the problems estimating the duration of VBR files.
Comment 3 Lionel Dricot 2008-02-13 22:46:32 UTC
It has to be noted that, although the duration is still wrong, seeking is now possible in the first MP3.

The second one might trigger error, and the duration is constantly reajusted while playing (!)

This is not perfect but definitly nicer.
Comment 4 Sebastian Dröge (slomo) 2008-02-25 12:14:36 UTC
Hm, for me both songs get their durations readjusted while playing and get an almost correct value after ~1 second.

Also I wonder why seeking is not possible at all with the second song, will investigate :) Apart from that this bug can be closed now IMHO.
Comment 5 Lionel Dricot 2008-02-25 13:10:44 UTC
I must add that I still use the Ubuntu Gutsy gstreamer which can be a bit old now.

So it's perfectly possible that you have the correct value after 1s. (I have it only at the end of the song itself).

It looks like the bug has been fixed as I don't experience it anymore.
