GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 431980
Windows: Gnucash crashes on start
Last modified: 2018-06-29 21:33:13 UTC
Gnucash 2.1.0 (installed from windows installer) crashes on start. I did not manage to get any meaningful error message except the two generic message boxes presented below. 100% reproducible on my machine. I have no problems with any other apps (also some gnome'ish apps like dia or gimp), so I don't think that this is my OS or hardware fault. If you could provide some info how to get more information (stacktrace) from this event, I'll try to provide more details My OS is XP SP 2. 1st message box: --------------------------- Error --------------------------- Unspecified fatal error encountered, aborting. --------------------------- 2nd message box: --------------------------- Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library --------------------------- Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\gnucash\bin\gnucash-bin.exe --------------------------- This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.
Alek, please see <http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Windows#Error_messages> for details. In particular, I'd start with seeing if there's anything "interesting" in gnucash.trace, then move on to using the debugger.
gnucash.trace shows only: * OTHER <> file corba-object.c: line 76 (ORBit_register_objref): assertion failed: (obj->object_key != NULL)
I have followed http://mail.gnome.org/archives/evolution-list/2005-August/msg00096.html advice and removed C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp\orbit-<username>. Now GnuCash started! Now I'm not sure if it is a bug of GNUCash... maybe gnucash should catch this error and at least advice cleaning up the temp dir... anyway I changed severity to minor as there is easy workaround.
Its not gnucash's place to monitor the object request broker for bugs. Closing this bug since the problem no longer happens.
