GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 430553
Partial searches do not return any results
Last modified: 2008-12-30 10:58:04 UTC
Please describe the problem: This is best illustrated with an example: You have several audio files from Dave Matthews Band on your computer. 1. Search for dave - Results returned 2. Search for matthews - Results returned 3. Search for matt - NO RESULTS 4. Search for atthews - NO RESULTS etc. Only full words are returned. Searching is impossible unless you know entire words. Steps to reproduce: 1. Search for dave - Results returned 2. Search for matthews - Results returned 3. Search for matt - NO RESULTS 4. Search for atthews - NO RESULTS etc. Actual results: No results returned Expected results: Regardless of which portion of the filenames are searched for, results should be returned. Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:
This is making me crazy :| a search tool that requires you to memorize the exact words of a file is pretty much useless for now and I need to use "locate" instead. If tracker wants to be included in gnome per default, it needs to at least match the feature set of gnome-search-tool.
I absolutely agree. I do not understand why part of a word doesn't include the whole word by default. For what I know, there is no escape character (ie % or *), which diminishes the tracker value.
