GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 422739
AssertionError: No icon to load!
Last modified: 2009-04-22 11:41:49 UTC
What were you doing when the application crashed? Launched Liferea. No icon shows in the applications dialog of Gimmie for liferea. Used to work before upgrade to feisty from edgy. Distribution: Ubuntu 7.04 (feisty) Gnome Release: 2.18.0 2007-03-13 (Ubuntu) BugBuddy Version: 2.18.0 System: Linux 2.6.20-12-generic #2 SMP Wed Mar 21 20:55:46 UTC 2007 i686 X Vendor: The X.Org Foundation X Vendor Release: 70200000 Selinux: No Accessibility: Disabled GTK+ Theme: Human Icon Theme: Human Memory status: size: 0 vsize: 0 resident: 0 share: 0 rss: 0 rss_rlim: 0 CPU usage: start_time: 0 rtime: 0 utime: 0 stime: 0 cutime:0 cstime: 0 timeout: 0 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 0 ----------- .xsession-errors (3907 sec old) --------------------- *** Window class matches launcher command: firefox-bin == firefox %u *** Reloading TopicRunningList: Computer Running Source *** Window startup-id matches launcher path: file:///usr/share/applications/evolution-mail.desktop *** Window class matches launcher command: firefox-bin == firefox %u *** Reloading TopicRunningList: Running Applications *** Scaling image of height 32 to 48: win-group://Evince Document Viewer *** Reloading TopicRunningList: Opened Documents *** Reloading TopicRunningList: Active Conversations *** Window startup-id matches launcher path: file:///usr/share/applications/evolution-mail.desktop *** Window class matches launcher command: firefox-bin == firefox %u *** Reloading TopicRunningList: Computer Running Source *** Setting source: <RecentApplicationLaunchers object (gimmie+gimmie_base+Item) at 0x8cd4bbc> !!! I should add that using the Main Menu preferences and reverting the Liferea shortcut 'fixed' the issue. The problem that I was seeing is that while the shortcut in the internet section had the proper icon, the shortcut in my history had no icon, and apparently was causing the crash as it selected that entry for the icon in the bar. Not sure how easy it would be to replicate this issue.

Could you try to reproduce this bug with the latest version of gimmie? I am suspecting, that this has been fixed in bug 419239...
I don't think I will be able to reproduce this easily. As I said before, it was an item in my history that was missing the icon, and it was that item that Gimmie attempted to use to create the icon on the bar. So I'm not really sure what caused that, but I can tell you that something in the code, probably the history, allowed an item to be created with no icon, but then the bar broke as it expected an icon and couldn't work around not having it.

Gimmie is unmaintained and no work is going on anymore. If you are interested in hacking on the codebase: A fork named Mayanna exists at http://groups.google.com/group/mayanna Closing all remaining Gimmie bugs as WONTFIX. Please do not file new bugs against Gimmie. Mayanna is the project you want to use and file your bugs against. Also see http://groups.google.com/group/gimmie/browse_thread/thread/4e0f8088e08e59a6 http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-bugsquad/2008-October/msg00000.html for more information. Thanks.
