GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 404065
Totem does not play remote (avi) files
Last modified: 2007-02-04 11:48:11 UTC
Please describe the problem: When opening a remote file, totem gives the following error: Totem could not play 'http://www.stockshots.com/images/videoclips/cartoon.avi'. Cannot play this file over the network. Try downloading it to disk first. If saving the file to /tmp and opening it, it works. However, this is not very user-friendly for novice (Linux) users... Steps to reproduce: 1. Open totem with a remote (avi) file as parameter Actual results: Expected results: Totem playing the file Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: Default installation of totem on Ubuntu 6.10, so probably using gstreamer backend.
I just tried an ogg sample (http://www.headless.dna.ie/ogg/Quand_On_A_Que_Lamour_-_Guesch_Patti.ogg), and it seems to work. So I guess there is a difference between which file type is being sent to totem...
When using Totem-SVN(Gstreamer) on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn it plays fine.
It would be a GStreamer bug, which I believe has already been fixed for some time. Tim?
It's been fixed a while ago. Should be fixed in gst-plugins-good 0.10.5. Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 336465 ***
