Description Steve Tousignant 2007-02-01 17:18:22 UTC
The table listing all error of playing / importing and al. is very useful but most of the time we can't see all the error. So adding a functional double-click to bring up the full error in a readable way will be much more useful.

Otherwise a text area at the bottom could also describe the full error.

Also it could simply be a tool-tip giving the full description.

Clicking on the error icon brings up a dialog box showing the error. For playback errors, the song properties window also displays the error.

It would be nice if the filename would be showing in the dialog box with some wrapping a la nautilus.

Since it's very difficult to have the full filename for someone organizing is music library into multiple sub-folder like "/home/steve/music/Artist/Album/Artist - Album - Track # - Song name.ogg" put in this long artist name and long album name and you need to boost up the resolution of the screen to max and span it on multiple display to be able to resize the columns defining the filename in error.

I do not mean to troll but this is something that can become annoying with time.

This would give more usability to the software and would be very helpful.

There's also a ubuntu bug related to this dialog here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/130651

"I imported some MP3s without first adding MP3 support for gstreamer. RB's library now includes an "Import Errors" section. A list of specific errors appears when I select that section. In the list of specific errors, there is a red+white icon next to each error. Clicking on that icon presents an error dialog with the text, "Playback error. The GStreamer plugins to decode "MP3" files could not be found."

If you click that red+white icon several times (such as by inadvertently double-clicking it), you get multiple copies of the dialog onscreen. There should only be one copy of that dialog onscreen at any given time; presenting multiple identical dialogs is one of the most frustrating things a computer can do to a user."

When you view a location, in the "Missing Files" or "Import Error" section, it
shows file locations as "/folder/folder/fold...". Since all the files are in
the same folders, the location field is now useless.

It should show the beginning and end of the path instead:
"/folder/fold...lder/filename"

Also it should be possible to view the entire path in a scrolling tooltip or
something.

A Debian user also suggested making it "possible to copy the text (location and error) from the import errors". So I guess that's another vote for putting the filename in the dialog box. See http://bugs.debian.org/482374
