What were you doing when the application crashed? I had just clicked a thumbnail, was examining the larger view, then popped over to a differnt workspace, was there for maybe 30 seconds, then the bug reporting tool popped into action. This is fixed in 2.8.x and 2.9.x, available at http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sources/gthumb/2.8/ and http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sources/gthumb/2.9/.
