Downloaded a .bin file of a movie and tried to play it with Totem, it didn't
work.

Tried the same in Mplayer and it played fine, but not with VLC.

It would be nice if Totem could play it.

$ file scoundrels.bin
scoundrels.bin: data

$ gnomevfs-info scoundrels.bin | grep MIME

$ gst-launch-0.10 dvdreadsrc device=scoundrels.bin num-buffers=1 ! fakesink

it seems that it comes from:
School.For.Scoundrels.FS.SCR.SVCD-OneDisc

Which would make it a VCD. GStreamer doesn't have good VCD support I'm afraid.
