GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 381022
Inconsistent expander hover area
Last modified: 2012-03-13 05:30:23 UTC
Please describe the problem: Nautilus "view as list". Might be related to 311944. When you highlight a directory, move the mouse over the twisty triangle, it changes from outline to solid. Clicking on it is often ignored. It looks like highlighting the line alters the hot area for receiving the click. Highlighting a different directory lets you click and open the unhighlighted tree view when arrow becomes solid. When the directory line is highlighted, you must move the cursor (sometimes much) further to the left to expand the directory. The offset for the hot area increases with the depth of the displayed directory nesting. Sounds like an accumulation of an error amount in positioning the image and the area to which it responds. Steps to reproduce: 1. Click the expand directory twisty to see the hot area for receiving the click 2. Highlight the directory line by clicking on the directory name. 3. move cursor to left until twisty becomes solid. 4. Click, and see no response. Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
This bug has been reported in Ubuntu at [https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/49567]. I can confirm the problem in nautilus 2.18.0.1 in Ubuntu Feisty. Mark Baldridge's description of the problem seems to be correct; in Nautilus list view (either browser or spatial mode), the active area for receiving clicks to the expander shrinks from the right with every level of subdirectory listing. Finally, for fourth level subdirectories, the active area shrinks to zero and it is impossible to expand the subdirectory. For third level subdirectories, the active area is only four pixels wide. This only affects selected entries; unselected entries work fine. The active area for highlighting the expander doesn't shrink, only the clickable area. This bug doesn't manifest itself in other tree views, for example the side pane directory tree in Nautilus' browser mode.
I can confirm this problem in Nautilus 2.20.0 in Ubuntu Gusty (7.10) it is exactly as described in the previous reports. I consider this to be a major problem as I run into it nearly every time that I use nautilus. -amicitas
I'm unable to reproduce this. Can anybody else?
Can't reproduce in Nautilus 3.3.91, expander and highlighting problem is reported as bug 670250
Closing then.
