GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 369442
Replace function very slow
Last modified: 2007-01-31 13:29:23 UTC
exec(SED) :) Other information: The 'replace' function on a 5879408 byte lenght file took about 4 min to complete with cpu load at 96-99% (also with very high memory usage). ( file: reps.xml; string : 'media:/3889279732979372.1212' -> 'file:/mnt/temp' ). The sed did the replacement in about 1 sec. This machine is running Fedora Core 6 (2.6.18-1.2798.fc6).
ps. The replacement has been made 576 times along the file.

Someone's reported this in Ubuntu too: https://launchpad.net/gedit/+bug/45174, yet it is more like this bug than the one that this is a dupe of. Should I comment at bug #325853 too? Matt
