Last modified: 2009-11-07 17:45:58 UTC
Version: 2.16.1 What were you doing when the application crashed? Nothing. Just trying to open a text file. Happens everytime I try to open gedit since I dist-upgraded to edgy Distribution: Ubuntu 6.10 (edgy) Gnome Release: 2.16.1 2006-10-02 (Ubuntu) BugBuddy Version: 2.16.0 Memory status: size: 38936576 vsize: 0 resident: 38936576 share: 0 rss: 14258176 rss_rlim: 0 CPU usage: start_time: 1160038779 rtime: 0 utime: 70 stime: 0 cutime:66 cstime: 0 timeout: 4 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 0 Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/gedit' (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1". confirming as per duplicate. t.harley, why doy ou think it's a duplicate? the stacktraces look different to me, but perhaps i'm wrong...
Andre, It's because I filed both bugs with crashes happening in the same circumstances. I'd like to add a note however : I was wondering if gedit would crash because it was missing icons so I just made many sudo gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/xxx xxx being the icon themes used on my system and gedit started working again ! I don't know if it's related...

It looks like gedit is crashing due to missing icons. I'm wondering if this is a gedit specific problem or a gtk+ one. Any idea on how to try to reproduce it?

I suspect this is a gtk+ bug. I have tried to reproduce it removing $PREFIX/share/icons/[gnome|hicolor], but I only got warnings on the console | paolo@elilix:/gnome/gnome-218/INSTALL/share/icons$ gedit | | (gedit:10414): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not find the icon 'gnome-fs-regular'. The | 'hicolor' theme | was not found either, perhaps you need to install it. | You can get a copy from: | http://icon-theme.freedesktop.org/releases | | ** (gedit:10414): WARNING **: Could not load theme icon gnome-fs-home: Icon | 'gnome-fs-home' not present in theme | | [snip] | | ** (gedit:10414): WARNING **: Throbber animation not found | | ** (gedit:10414): WARNING **: Throbber fallback animation not found either | Any idea on how to try to reproduce this?
Ubuntu bug similar to that one: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/69541 The bug is trigered by a broken icon cache apparenly, from the bug: "... http://librarian.launchpad.net/5688692/icon-theme.cache.broken.gz broken icon-theme.cache, gzipped Apologies, i DO still have a backup of the broken file, attached. "sudo cp icon-theme.cache.broken /usr/share/icons/gnome/icon-theme.cache" breaks gedit again, and "sudo gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/gnome/" fixes it. ..."
