Description alen_williams 2006-09-15 05:10:43 UTC
I have Pan configured with two servers, my local ISP and Newsguy. Since upgrading to Pan 0.112 binary newsgroups are showing two of most (not all) posts. Different news groups are affected, not just one.

For example:

program.part01.rar
program.part01.rar
program.part02.rar
program.part02.rar

etc...

It looks to me that it's not merging the news servers, so, posts that appear on both of my news servers are appearing as different posts, when it should merge them into one...
Comment 1 Charles Kerr 2006-09-15 21:50:22 UTC
is this repeatable without going online -- that is, if you start Pan cold and
load a group, do duplicates appear?

If so, please mail me, or attach to the ticket, the ~/.pan2/groups/groupname
file for the group in question, and your ~/.pan2/preferences.xml file.
Neither of these have any passwords or critical information on it.
Comment 2 alen_williams 2006-09-15 23:39:06 UTC
Yep, it happens as soon as I launch Pan, regardless of any online activity...

Oh, and if it matters, I skipped the previous release, going from .110 to .112...

I've emailed you the requested files, as I can't add more than 1Meg to this...

OK. D'oh, I see the problem. I'm not sure how to fix it,indeed cause problems with folding multiserver
articles together.
but I see the problem. This is a side-effect of the memory-saving
hacks in 0.111 and does break multiserver integration.

0.112 patch

Give this a try and see if it works:

NOTE: this fixes merging for headers downloaded after the patch is
applied, but doesn't retroactively fix the rest. So though it's
not essential, you may want to clear out your newsgroups to get
everything merged properly.

As a side-effect, this should reduce xover memory a little more
(though I haven't done a side-by-side test yet) and makes
the subject line in the header pane look a little nicer for
multiparts. (instead of "aasfasdf (2/4)" it reads "aasfasdf (/4)"

Excellent, applied the patch, works just fine now. I didn't even have to clear out and reload the newsgroups.

Thanks Charles.

I take that back, I DID have to reload the groups. The patch definitely fixed it though!
