There msut be a mechanism by which I can apply the current folder's view to all folders. I have defined a custom view which I need to apply to all folders. Right now there is no way other than saving it and manually apply it across all the hundreds of folders that I have.

You would now have a preference option, "Apply the same view settings to all folder". If enabled any msg list view changes would apply to all folders.
