Description Paul Smith 2006-08-22 15:03:20 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Most of my meetings scheduled through Exchange are showing up fine in the Evolution calendar. However, one meeting in particular is not showing up. If I use the OWA web interface, I can see it just fine but when I look in Evolution it's not there. I have three other meetings that day and those show up but not this one. Also, it's a weekly meeting (recurring) and none of the recurrances show up either.

This meeting was created by someone else (using Outlook) and I was invited, and I accepted (but most of my meetings are like that and work fine).

I then tried creating an appointment in Evolution for the same time/recurrance, and in Evo calendar I just see that appointment. In OWA (as expected) I see both the meeting and the appointment scheduled for the same time.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Evolution
2. Click on Calendars
3. Go to a day where this meeting should occur

Actual results:
Meeting does not appear

Expected results:
Meeting should appear

Does this happen every time?
For this meeting, yes.

Other information:
I'm using Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS, and Evolution 2.6.1 (there's no option for that exact value in the version listbox).

I'd like to attach the calendar entry that Evolution is downloading so you can review it but I don't know how to obtain it: is there any debug option to Evo or Connector that will print this out for me?

Since you are not able to get it in Evolution,
please use Outlook and export that appointment and
attach it to this bug (if you don't like to attach it here
please mail it to me rsushma@novell.com)

Also, you can enable E2K_DEBUG=4 and run evolution-exchange-storage
from the console and paste the debug messages here, which
gets printed when you go the the calendar where Evolution
should have shown it.

Poornima, Chen, please specify how to export?

I'm not an Outlook expert by any means. I didn't see any "export" option in the menus. I opened the meeting and used "Save As..." and it allowed me to save in various formats, including RTF, ical, and some MS specific format that looked like a mail message, but was OLE encoded or something.

Are any of these formats what you want to see? I'm quite willing to provide the details which hopefully will let you reproduce the bug; I just need a little direction on how to generate the information you might need.

Thanks!

Paul,
please get us the ICAL format.

Created attachment 71775 [details]
ical/vcal appointment

This file is the result of a "Save As..." ical format of the appointment from Outlook. I went through and obscured the details but I didn't remove any lines or change anything about the recurrances, etc. With the exception of the email addresses I tried to keep all the text the same length just with different content.

If this isn't good enough I can send the original to someone privately (but I don't want to post it to the bug tracker).
Comment 5 Paul Smith 2006-08-28 14:07:36 UTC
I provided the ical/vcal output as an attachment.
Comment 6 Paul Smith 2006-08-30 16:33:02 UTC
Ok, there is more to say about this. Hopefully it will help someone.

First, I cannot import the attached ical file into Evolution successfully. I decided to try importing the file by hand to see if the meeting would show up properly. I used the File -> Import wizard and selected the "import one file" option, and entered the filename of this .ics file. If I choose the Exchange calendar when it gives me an option, then Evolution hangs forever and I have to kill it (it doesn't seem to be using any CPU, etc.)

If I choose my local calendar then it does appear to succeed (at least it doesn't hang and no errors are reported), BUT I can't find the meeting anywhere on my calendar.

Second, I got another meeting that I had the same issue with and I might have an idea of how this happened the first time. I was added to an existing meeting (just as before) and I got a meeting request via email (again the originator was using Outlook). I accepted the meeting and it was placed into my private calendar (I wasn't paying attention). Once I saw it was in the wrong calendar I used right click menu option "Move to calendar..." to move it to the correct calendar.

Once I did that, the meeting was hosed up. It said that it was recurring, but there were no recurrances: only the first one. If I edited the meeting and clicked the "Recurrance" button I saw that it was checked to recur and the data seemed correct, but it was all greyed out so I couldn't change it and, as I said, no recurrances of the meeting appeared on my calendar.

So, I went back to my inbox and re-accepted the meeting, this time being careful to choose the right calendar, and now it all looks correct and all my recurrances are properly reported. Plus, the "broken" meeting is now gone--weird.

Now that I think about it, I believe that could well be how I treated the previous "broken" meeting as well (I definitely remember doing this before). However, I've since deleted the invitation so I can't confirm if the same workaround would fix it.

So, it looks like this might be a problem with the "Move to calendar..." option (in the Connector...?) specifically. I'm updating the summary of the bug.
