Description Joanmarie Diggs (IRC: joanie) 2006-08-19 22:48:32 UTC
Please restore the functionality of the arrow keys in the Select Folder dialog.

Try this:

1.Arrow to a message in your inbox that you want to move to some other folder.
2.Press Control Shift V for the Select Folder dialog
3. Focus seems to be in the tree of mail folders (with nothing selected), but the Up and Down Arrows do nothing. (They used to work here)
4.Use the mouse to click in the tree of folders, now Up and Down Arrow do work

Other information:
I wasn't sure if this was an Evolution thing or a Ubuntu/Edgy thing. The arrow keys worked as expected in this dialog until I updated in Edgy. Now they don't. Figured I'd file here to start with. :)

I can reproduce this on 2 different machines.

Thanks for your time!!

it is an evolution thingy, i can reproduce it in 2.7.91 on suse 10.1.
however, you can use gtk+'s type ahead search - just type the name of the folder and focus will go to that. so i don't know exactly if it's a bug or a feature. :-)

Ping. :-)

What if you happen to be blind? If you know that you're in a tree table, and that the typical behavior of Up and Down Arrow within a tree table is to move you up and down, it can be a little bit confusing when this is not taking place in this one dialog and you've not a clue why.

I suppose one could do as you suggest and use the type ahead search, but if you can't see what's on the screen and cannot recall if the folder that contains Evolution issues is named "bugs" or "features," what do you type as your type ahead search? :-) :-)

All kidding aside, the previous functionality was better from an accessibility standpoint. Any chance it could be restored?

Thanks!!!

A year later and the problem still exists in Evolution 2.12.1.
Could somebody from the Evolution team please respond to this?

Thanks.

Works for me, even maybe not fully as expected.
I press Ctrl+Shift+V, then I see
On This Computer
   Inbox
      Folder1
      ...
   Drafts
   Junk
   Outbox
   Sent
   Trash
...

The focused item is "On This Computer", but not selected. When I hit Down Arrow, then it moves on Inbox, which became selected and focused together, the "Move" button is now enabled. When I hit the Up Arrow, selected item is still Inbox, but focused is now On This Computer (notice dotted rectangle around it).

In other words, you cannot select all the items in the tree, the account name (On This Computer), Junk and Trash, for example.

Hey, you're right: It works now. :-) At least in 2.21.90 (on my Hardy box); it doesn't work in 2.12.1 (Gutsy box).

Rich, thanks for pinging it. Milan, thanks for pointing out that it has been fixed. :-)

Cool. I didn't try in on a Hardy box. Milan, feel free to cool this bug
as FIXED. Thanks.

Thank you guys for info. I will rather close it as incomplete, because I do not know when it got fixed. Maybe some brave triager can find a duplicate for this. :)
