Description james weeks 2006-07-21 21:30:12 UTC
Please describe the problem:
if you select some files and say move or copy to a folder where the files copied already exist and then before the copy or move dialogue box is displayed you are still selecting more files writing a folder you get stuck. Basicly it looks like the mouse focus is still in the window selecting the files but you have a dialogue that wont let you actualy Finnish selecting until you have presses a button on the dialogue such as ok on a out of space dialogue or replace/skip etc on a files or folder already exists dialogue. The only way to get past this is to hit space bar as luckily keyboard has focus within the dialogue, you cant use mouse as its still stuck in window selecting files.

Steps to reproduce:
1. create a folder say "test" with lots of files or folders in enough that when you try to copy it will take awhile before it pops up a dialog.
2. not creat another folder say "test2" and put a copy of one or two files in it thats the save as that in test just to we know wee will get a dialog asking us to replace/skip files etc
3. now select all files within "test" dir and copy or move to "test2" dir. Now the important part before a dialog opens just select some files in any window but keep mouse key down
4.Holy crap whats this the dialog should by know have shown up and because you had the mouse down trying to select files its stuck. The only thing you can do is use the keyboard to get rid of the dialog now.

Actual results:
you can only use the keyboard to navigate copy/move dialog as the keyboard focus is left stuck in window still trying to compleate its select files operation

Expected results:
The mouse should not get stuck and should be free to either continue selecting files i.e let window recive that the mouse key has been released and to compleate its select operation or to move out of the window and click the dialog box buttons.

Does this happen every time?
yes, 100% repeatable

Other information:
I don't know if this is actually a nautilus bug or maybe even a bug in gtk/gnome see what you think. I'm not a developer and haven't programmed gtk or gnome for ages so cant think were this fault lies. Also i assume this is a major fault and not minor even though an easy workaround is present (hit space bar).

I just hope i have explained it will enough for everyone to understand. Its a bug thats annoying and been around for ages i just not had a chance to report it. Its 100% repeatable just make sure you move alot of files so you have time to start selecting more with mouse in the time is prepares before the dialogue pops up.

I have not tried any other gtk or gnome apps so dont know if this is just a problem with nautilus
