GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 348088
Screensaver disable
Last modified: 2018-05-24 11:40:12 UTC
There should be an option to disable the screensaver when in playback or maybe in "party-mode". My monitor goes standby and then my speakers in the monitor goes off. I will like to keep my standby time set at 10 minutes when not listening/running Rhythmbox in partymode. I like the way Totem movie player acts, when playing a movie the monitor is on (no screensaver neither), and when the movie is finish, the screensaver/standby works again. Do you like the idea? Peter
Would you say this is a duplicate of bug 344979?

This bug is not a duplicate of 344979. The inhibit methods for inhibiting Gnome Power Manager's suspend and for inhibiting the screensaver are quite different. If one inhibits the screensaver then that inhibit also stops GPM, but inhibiting GPM does not inhibit the screensaver. This is done deliberately. Personally, when I play music, I want the screensaver to come on to protect my screen etc. I do not want it to suspend the machine through lack of use. I think that inhibiting GPM should occur every time that a song is playing. I think that the screensaver should only be disabled as an option - it is dangerous to inhibit the screensaver for long periods when the user isn't actively sitting in front of the monitor. The wiki page linked to in the other bug (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/GnomePowerManagerInactiveSleep) has more information on the differences between the methods.
