GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 347963
Banshee creates a Music directory on my desktop
Last modified: 2007-01-17 19:01:00 UTC
I have my desktop directory set to ~/ and when I start Banshee for the first time it creates a Music directory there. That directory is unwanted and I would have preferred if it had asked me for the location to the directory instead. It even recreates the directory if I delete it.
Yes, This is because the default location of the Music Library is the home-folder of that user. You can change this in your preferences of Banshee
Understood. But Banshee should, the first time it starts, display a dialog that asks me where I want to store my Music Library. Just assuming I want it in ~/Music is a little rude.
I've brought this up on IRC. For 99% of the people, using ~/Music is a sane default. The other 1% can easily switch it in the preferences dialog. For that reason we'd rather not bug everybody with a dialog that might only confuse most of our users. Hence, we have decided that we won't fix this bug. If you set your library location to ~/, it won't attempt to create ~/Music anymore.
If you don't want to change the dir and still don't want it to show up on the desktop: echo "Music" >> ~/.hidden You can then link it where ever you want, make a nautilus bookmark or whatever
