GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 347915
Icon visibility should depend on how critical the situation is
Last modified: 2006-12-23 15:15:47 UTC
When running on battery: Currently a green icon is shown when my battery is full and a red icon is shown when my battery is almost empty. This is good. However, the green icon is much more visible than the red one, because there's alot of green in the green icon and almost no red in the red icon (sorry about my poor english skills). So the problem is that the red icon that I really should notice isn't very visible because most of the icon is transparent. But the green icon that isn't very important is very visible.
Valid point. What's the best way of sorting this?
After some thought I have reached the conclussion: I don't know :-) A possibility is only to use color. That is, the color of the icon is all green when the battery is fully charged, all red when it's close to completely discharged, and is some mixture of the two when only half-full. But that would give problems for colorblind people (red-green colorblindness is very common). The icon could be some symbol, like plus (+) when the battery is doing good, and minus (-) when it's doing bad. I just don't like the idea of having a threshold that determines if the battery is doing good or bad. It's a hard to solve (I think) problem that is only of minor relevance (I think), but it's also an interesting problem :-)
reopening as requested information has been provided - at least a bit. ;-)
