Description Simon Wood 2006-06-23 17:02:05 UTC
Hi,
As per discussion on mailing list it is wrong to start 'ringing' sound before Ekiga has received the '180 ringing' message for the following reasons:

1) It implies that the number entered is valid.

2) When making connection takes a long time (ie. more than a few seconds), it means that caller hears multiple rings before the callee's phone actually rings. Thus caller may be inclined to stop calling before the callee gets to the phone.

Suggestion:
New sound is played between the time the connection is requested (ie. call placed) and the '180 ringing' message is received.

Once '180 ringing' is received the normal ringing sound should be played. If connection is not possible (i.e. user not on line or invalid number) the call terminate sound should be played and the call 'hung-up'.

I suggest a short 'd-d-d-d-p' sound, repeated every 5 seconds or so. I will upload suggested '.wav' later.

Simon.

This sound should be played every 5 seconds whilst waiting for the '180 ringing'.

Simon.

Part 1 of the bug report is fixed: the dial tone sound is only heard when receiving a 180 ringing. It is fixed in HEAD and in 2.0.x (which will lead to 2.0.4).

Something I realize now in HEAD:

For some reasons I don't hear the connecting sound anymore.

Ekiga 4.0.0 shows a rotating circle while connecting, before ringing. If you think that a sound should be heard too during that time, reopen the bug.
