Description Vassilis Pandis 2006-06-12 18:58:34 UTC
An Ubuntu user has reported the following problem. The original bug report can be found here : https://launchpa.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gcalctool/+bug/49416 . Thanks.

Clear Entry" seems to perform exactly the same as "Clear." gcalctool doesn't perform partial calculations in any mode any more, so the tooltip explanations don't help. Also, the explanation in the help file is certainly wrong. Finally, "Clear" doesn't seem to affect any registers or anything, so as far as I can tell, the two do exactly the same thing: Clear the display.

Even assuming something is different at some level, the help file is definitely wrong, as the example is impossible.

Clear entry make sense when "Use Arithmetic Operator Precedence" is not
checked. It allows you to clear just what is currently been shown.

For example, enter:

5
0
+
3
CE (Clear Entry)
5
=

The result will be 55.

It is known that the Help documentation is inappropriate for the
Arithmetic Operator Precedence mode. Bug #309210 covers that. I've
added a comment to that placeholder bug for this problem.
Unfortunately there is nobody working on updating the gcalctool
documentation at this point in time.
