Description Rui Mesquita 2006-06-08 06:51:55 UTC
Please describe the problem:
The location bar disappears permanently when displaying folders with a long enough name.
To fix it, all the user can do is open the parent folder in a new nautilus window.

Steps to reproduce:
1. from nautilus, create a directory with a name about ~90 characters long,
2. enter that directory, verify everything's ok, return to parent folder
3. add another ~10 characters to the directory name
4. enter that directory again.

Actual results:
the location bar disappears from view

Expected results:
nautilus shows the contents of the directory, and everything else should be ok

Does this happen every time?
this happens with any directory, as along as it has a long enough name. I still haven't found any way bring back the location bar, all I could do is open a new nautilus window.

Other information:
this bug may depend on factors like theme used, if the window is maximized, etc.

This problem was also reported to Debian, see http://bugs.debian.org/419204

Testing with gnome 2.18.1, this seems to have been at least partially fixed. The location bar still disappears after entering a directory with a long name, but all the user has to do is go up a directory, and enter another one with a shorter name, and the location bar reappears. No need to open a new nautilus window anymore. So I will mark as fixed, I think this is not ideal, but good enough. ;-)
