GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 341651
create a hierarchy in categories
Last modified: 2016-09-28 16:31:39 UTC
Actually, starting with no bookmarks (I didn"t import any bookmarks), I have many many categories. If I search for a special category that I don't remember the name, I have to scroll for the whole list. So, I would like to have a hierarchical list of the categories, like the hierarchical list of the bookmarks menu.
Thanks for your bug report! The topic entry field uses autocomplete to quickly enter existing topics, and the topic chooser gives suggestions based on the same algorithm as the hierarchy in the Bookmarks menu. If the topic list would contain the same hierarchy, it could get very long, because topics would appear multiple times. Is that really what you are suggesting?
maybe it would not be so long because long wategories would be folded. And exactly, it may contains the same category twice or more, is it a problem ? In fact I already have a very long list of categories, so make it a little longer would not be a great difference to me. Maybe, activate a such system when we have many categories, it would not be a good idea if you have a limited amount of categories :)
I think the suggestions are fair enough for this, what do others think?
The current Summer of Code project may touch upon this.
I think we want to stick to simple tags.
