Bug 341132 - File save-as dialog allways opens with closed 'browse folder'

Description Stefan Wagner 2006-05-09 13:08:40 UTC
a) either: allways open the 'browse folder' part of the dialog
b) or: allways open this dialog in the way it was left the last time
c) or: make it somehow configurable, how the dialog is opened

Reasoning:
When I like to save a file, I concentrate on this job.
I should have most options available immediately - a big window with a lot of
information, and not x steps to go.
I'm saving 10 - 50 files per day, and allways I have to click this silly option.

Most people who don't need this option aren't disturbed, if the browse folder
part is allways open.

Other information:
I had to choose one application where the bug belongs, but most programs use the
same 'save-as-dialog' - it isn't a gedit - specific bug, but an overall-gnome-bug.

I've seen similar bug-reports, but they had an other main focus, so I opened a
new one.
Thank you.

Perhaps I missed the place to make the right decision where to place it.

It seems this bug is related to bug #153828

I agree.
Open for more than 25 months. Outsch!
Comment 4 Federico Mena Quintero 2007-01-25 20:12:39 UTC
This was fixed in the duplicate; the chooser now remembers your setting.

To Stefan Wagner: if you had provided a patch, it would have been fixed sooner.
