as title says, it would be very nice if gstreamer provided a codec for this format so that i could be able to use rhythmbox and not mpc123 to play those files.

A decoder musepack files exists both in GStreamer-0.8 (in gst-plugins) and GStreamer-0.10 (musepackdec in gst-plugins-bad and apedemux in gst-plugins-good), based on libmpcdec.
