GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 339280
Right click menu on volume control is self referential
Last modified: 2010-01-24 01:05:47 UTC
When you right click on the 'volume control' applet in the panel one of the options is 'open volume control' - a better description is needed, something like 'open mixer control', or 'open volume equalizer', or 'open volume mixer' Other information: I would argue that in the users mind the volume control applet is *the* volume control - to then have a right click option open volume control will be confusingly self referential. What you get when you click on open volume control does more than the title 'volume control' would idicate.
Davyd, do we consider this a problem?
The name of the full mixer on my desktop is "Volume Control", so "Open Volume Control" seems reasonable to me.
The applet is also called 'Volume Applet' in the about box. you can argue about this, but I don't think this would be a problem. The name 'mixer' should be avoided, since it's a technical term, implying mixing of two sounds. What the volume control/applet do is different, they control your volume/loudness.
